I think communication gets a bad rap. Do you ever notice how people will recite "It's all about communication" whenever certain topics are brought up? Relationship struggles? It's all about communication. Managing people? It's all about communication. Questions about team dynamics? It's all about communication.
Well, I don't think it IS, all about communication. I mean, it is...but it isn't.

It's true that great leaders ARE great communicators. But what makes them great communicators is not how they communicate...but what they communicate. Great communication begins with what you communicate. And to know what to communicate to inspire your team towards success begins with understanding your vision.
Great communication begins with a great leadership vision.
As you continue your Profound Leadership journey, here are 4 quick communication tips to reflect on this week. Take a Profound Minute and consider incorporating these into your leadership plan.
Great leaders communicate a vision for their team. A vision (goal, end result, or value-based process) gives everyone involved a common direction. This shared direction will be the catalyst that keeps a team focused and unified.
Great leaders communicate how the team will achieve that vision. Get descriptive. Think about the specific routines, protocols, behaviors, and tactics that are necessary to accomplish the vision. This gets people focused on action! Being flexible and allowing others to suggest ideas will build ownership and help catalyze this vision for everyone
Great leaders communicate through obstacles. When trouble arises, name what is happening. Describe how the obstacle is affecting your team’s success. Collaborate together to resolve issues. Great leaders don’t have to have the solution…but they must communicate their way through it with their team.
Great leaders communicate with balanced emotion. Not every problem is a traumatic event, and not every success is a mountaintop experience. There is a time for teams to celebrate and commiserate together, but great leaders keep the rollercoaster ups and downs to a minimum. Returning to your vision and tactics will help keep maintain that balance.
Thanks for being here.
